A living room refresh is the perfect way to start the new year. You have put all the holiday decor away and now you can see the living space with new eyes. Below are some mid-century modern living room refresh ideas along with some things to consider before you buy.

Why Refresh?

I recently saw that a friend has moved her television out of the living room and now she can rethink the whole space and add new pieces that fit her goals and lifestyle.

Maybe you are simply bored of seeing the same things or you really need to make your space look cohesive after noticing how cluttered and random it feels. Whatever you reason, I am rooting for you.

Mid-century Modern Living Room

I am a simple modern kind of lady, so I am going to show you an idea for a mid-century modern look that is sophisticated and cohesive using allmodern.com furniture, lighting, rugs and decor.

Where to Start

This design actually started with the beautiful console. It has a unique color, yet it does not dominate the room. The sofa and chairs compliment and contrast each other. The artwork is a simple geometric design with wood frames to warm the space. The finishing touches are the rug that has coordinating colors and geometric shapes, the beautiful wood side tables and coffee table (coffee table grounds the space since everything else is leggy) and the statement lighting.

Although this design is completely new, if you want to start with what you have, choose your favorite piece in your living room and work off of that. For example, you have a really nice mid-century modern sofa or a beautiful piece of art, so you work your refresh design off of the colors and designs that you already own and make smaller changes that have a big impact, like adding a new rug, some new plants, pillows or even just new lighting.

Think about your existing colors, sizes of furniture and art and the traffic of the room before you purchase new things for the room.

If you want to make a overhaul of your living room, again, start with something you love, just like I started with a credenza that would be a longtime staple in any space. From there, work with the colors and styles to pick additional pieces that complement the favorite piece and the space.
