Baby Boy Nursery Inspiration

Does getting the nursery ready for your baby boy feel overwhelming to you? Do you have some ideas, but you are not sure where to start?

I am in the midst of planning a nursery for our first baby boy. We have three girls and I have loved planning out their rooms, but boy stuff is different and a new and exciting territory for me. I hope you enjoy the inspiration and direction I have gathered to help you welcome a little piece of heaven into your home.

A great baby boy nursery begins with good planning. Here are the elements of a baby boy nursery to consider as you prepare for your precious baby.

Color:

What colors do you want to use in the room. Check out this post about color psychology that may influence your decision on colors.

For example, if you want the room to be calming, consider blue, white or gray. If you want to have a room that your little guy can grow into, consider using neutral wall colors so that you can easily change out other parts of the room as he changes. Blankets, pillows and even art are a lot easier to change than painting the walls and buying all new furniture. This baby boy is our last child, so we are thinking ahead to the future.

If you are ready for something bold and energizing, use colors like orange, green, red and yellow. Before you start buying anything for the room, nail down the colors you want for the walls, furniture and accents so that you can make informed decisions. Also, take stock of what you already have and think of ways you can use those things in your new design.

Space:

How much room do you have in the room? This is important to determine before you start buying pieces for the room. Some rooms are just big enough for a crib and a chair and other rooms are like master suites for baby. Measure out the space and start planning where you would like to place certain key pieces of the room. You can do this simply by using a piece of paper and pencil and sketching out the room with labeled measurements. As you look for furniture and art you will know the measurements of the space and it will make it easier to find the right size.

Theme:

Many nurseries follow a loose theme throughout the room. Here are some common ones that I have seen with inspiring images.

Some other popular themes are

  • space,
  • sports,
  • superhero,
  • traveler/explorer and
  • animal

Now here are the universal pieces of a well-thought out nursery:

  • crib and bedding
  • dresser/changing table
  • chair
  • nightstand/end-table
  • rug
  • lighting (overhead and task)
  • feature wall and or art
  • window treatments
  • good storage for books, toys and clothes (Many times toys and books can also be an integral part of the decorations.)

The most important thing about a nursery is that you and baby are able to be comfortable in this space. You should be able to access all the things that allow you to care for your baby and allow you to relax and bond with your child.

Baby should be able to sleep well in this space and maybe play and read in this space. Although the room is for the baby, consider what you like early on since you can adapt the room to their style when they start to form more opinions about their surroundings.

I am so excited for you and I to create a custom space that brings us joy during this joyous time of life! I am off to now to continue nesting and getting ready. I am waiting impatiently to show you our new addition.
