Details Matter: One Room Challenge Week 5

details

This week’s One Room Challenge #BHGORC progress felt slow, but we were able to finish up some details that go a long way in the end. I am eager to do the decorating, but I have learned that patiently working on the details cannot be ignored now because if the small things are not addressed, they can really detract from the overall feeling and look of the room.

In my book, Making Room: How to Create Soul and Style in Your Home, I talk about how a room is not really done until the finishing touches are completed. It is significant that something as small as an outlet cover or trim can make such a big impact. I believe that this principle is true of life too. It is the small daily acts of our life that add up to something extraordinary.

Here are the small finishing projects that we did.

  1. Cody finished applying the baseboards and trim.
  2. I found out that our windows from Renewal by Anderson arrived at the warehouse and will be installed May 7, just in time for the end of the challenge. Phew!
  3. I added wood plastic to the indentions left from the nails in the baseboards and trim. I then sanded and wiped off the excess plastic wood and added paint to make it look nice.
  4. Added a little glue to some small spots of wallpaper near seams. My respect for people who wallpaper often has increased!
  5. I purchased curtains and rods for the soon-to-be new windows.

For next week 6 (final week):

  1. Finish building the bunk bed-side railing and ladder.
  2. Install the canopy and putting in the reading chair.
  3. Hang art & style accessories and lighting.
  4. Place and style the dresser.
  5. Taking lots of photos so we can reveal the room to you!

Until next week, pay attention to the details of your life and be aware of their impact. I’m ready to finish this space and show you the fruit of our love and labor.

Best,

Lucy Bowman
