What is the value of interior design?
I have thought a lot about why interior design matters. I have asked myself, Why do I love designing interiors so much? What is the real value of creating beautiful spaces?
The answer came to me this morning as I studied Genesis 1 in the Bible. I know that this may seem like an odd place to get my answers, but I am not surprised. It is usually as I quietly think and study God’s word that I receive what I need.
In Genesis 1, Christ is creating Earth. He is taking his time creating the land, the water, the sky, the animals and eventually his crowning creation: man and woman. After the work was done the scriptures say, “And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.” (emphasis added)
I am in awe at the home that God created for me, and for you. It was made perfectly. It has sustained those before us, the current population, and many after us will continue to enjoy the details of a fall leaf, the cleansing power of water, the quietness of fallen snow and the miracle of a newborn baby. I truly cannot comprehend the intricacies of God’s creations, but I am so grateful.
Now, how does this relate to interior design? Well, it may seem pathetic compared to making a world, but I am the creator of my home. I have a space that is mine and I choose to create it carefully. I care about the details, and my home is made for those who inhabit this space everyday.
My children run around in circles playing horses, tag and chase-laughing with glee. My husband comes home and sits down to a cooked meal and clean home (most of the time) after working all day. I choose the colors, the art, the placement, the function for my home. I know that when my home is clean, decorated, and functioning well, everyone that lives in this space feels more peace, higher energy and is enabled to tackle their challenges. Just like God created a perfect world for me, I can try to create a perfect home for me and my family.
I am a careful home-creator and it matters!

More than Shopping and Spending Money
I know it can feel overwhelming to make changes to your home, but I am here to tell you that creating a home is a lot more than acquiring things. I do not have a large budget, but I have made home improvement a priority and so the universe has sent me the things that I need at the price that I can pay.

My Mission, My Authentic, My Offer
There is a company called Dwell with Dignity that I found because I have been thinking about how much I would love to use interior design to elevate others’ life. Dwell with Dignity has a similar mission to what I want to accomplish. Click on the link to see their website and work. It is inspiring.
If you or someone you know would benefit from getting help to make home a more beautiful, functional and peaceful space, please let me know. I would really like to help someone with ideas on how to improve their home and life through interior styling and planning. This person does not need a large budget. I can work with them with what they have. There is no strings attached, just an offer to help.
I recently created a mood board for my sister’s living room. It was not created for her to literally buy everything on the board-although she could, but it can help her to visualize what would look good together, what to look for when she shops and a goal to works towards improving her home. See her mood boards here.
My biggest project right now is to make home improvement, in every sense of the word, accessible and fun for everyone. I am very excited to share it with you when I am done.
