Spring by Gerard Manley Hopkins
Nothing is so beautiful as Spring –
When weeds, in wheels, shoot long and lovely and lush;
Thrush’s eggs look little low heavens, and thrush
Through the echoing timber does so rinse and wring
The ear, it strikes like lightnings to hear him sing;
The glassy peartree leaves and blooms, they brush
The descending blue; that blue is all in a rush
With richness; the racing lambs too have fair their fling.
What is all this juice and all this joy?
A strain of the earth’s sweet being in the beginning
In Eden garden. – Have, get, before it cloy,
Before it cloud, Christ, lord, and sour with sinning,
Innocent mind and Mayday in girl and boy,
Most, O maid’s child, thy choice and worthy the winning.
I hope spring is coming or already arrived where you are. I opened my front door yesterday and loved to see the light pour in and feel the warmth of the sun on my face. I love spring and Easter because it is a time of new beginnings, even more so for me than the beginning of the year. It takes a long time for spring to get here in Wisconsin, but once it does, the greens and colors of the season are so beautiful.
I am looking forward to my girls being able to play outside. I have lots of plans for gardening and decorating my deck and porch. I am also looking forward to finishing many other home projects. Like I said, I seem to wake up as the Earth wakes up.Here are a few links to things that I want to buy for the season. I want some seating for our deck, lights to put on the tree house and planters for some herbs and flowers.
Also, Michaels has a great discount on their spring florals and greenery. I have used it to decorate my mantel. Do you see my pig? I love pigs!
What projects do you have lined up for this time of warm weather and growth? What makes it feel like spring for you?
Best,
Lucy
