Here in the Midwest we have been enjoying unusually warm weather, but today there was a crisp autumn bite in the air. The colder temperatures and the falling leaves in the front yard was just enough to motivate me to decorate for fall. I keep things simple at my house because I have small children that love to “play” with my decorations and because I have a tight budget.

I hope that you are enjoying the fall season where ever you are. I get to drive 30 minutes to work twice a week, and I am so grateful to live where there are so many trees because that means there are more leaves to change colors. The changes are already happening and I literally smile when I see fall around me.
My mother came to visit in October three years ago and I took her to a nearby state park. As we drove through the trees, we were both in awe at the vibrance and glorious beauty of the reds, oranges yellows, greens and browns all mixed in perfect harmony. I remember my mom saying, “It looks like everything is on fire.” I remember thinking, “This must be what heaven looks like.” As I have said before, God truly is the master artist.
Fall is so special to me and celebrating each year makes my heart happy. We normally celebrate with a fall kickoff party, but I think this year our porch and mantel decor might be our celebration…and maybe some apple cider, pumpkin pie and movie night featuring Ichabod Crane.
Do you have any fall traditions? What are some decor pieces you pull out each year for the season?
May the falling leaves, freshly picked apples and bouquets of sharpened pencils be with you!
Best,
Lucy Jo
Hey Lucy Jo,
I enjoyed your article especially including your mom. We readers like the added tidbits about the blogger’s life.
The simple decorations are pretty and look like just enough to me.
Thanks Sharon! It is really nice to know that you didn’t mind hearing about my personal life too. I’m glad you think the decor is pretty and enough. Thanks for reading!
I love finding beautiful decor on a budget, and I love the dollar spot at Target! Your decorations are beautiful!
Beautiful mantel. I love the idea of a fall kick off party, apple cider and pumpkin pie. My fall tradition is more outdoorsy. I love going for a fall hike absorbing the beauty of the leaves changing colors, going to an apple orchard, and the likes.
I love this time of year! The colours are so beautiful – and using them in your decor is a fantastic idea. It looks amazing ^^. Thanks for the inspiration <3.
Really lovely mantel! Great use of color and layering.
I absolutely love your happy place rug! Fall is by far my most favourite time of year. For me it’s time to bring out the blankets and candles, light the fire and curl up on the sofa! I love carving pumpkins with my boy too, we choose new designs every year, display them in the hallway and light them every evening!
