Jackets and Coats for Women- A Capsule Wardrobe

coats for women

Since I live in cold places, outerwear clothing in my capsule wardrobe is very important. Jackets and coat for women should be classic and quality.

I could be wearing my pajama shirt to drop off the kids at school and still look chic because I have a beautiful coat or jacket. Am I the only one that doesn’t have much time to get ready before dropping kids off at school?

Even if you don’t have drop-off, you want to look good for your day quickly, so check out these outerwear pieces that will be stylish year after year.

The black coat/parka. We get a lot of snow in Wisconsin, so I like to keep as much of my body covered without too much weight, so the best coat will be lightweight, super warm, long and easy to wear with just about anything. Enter my Eddie Bauer down coat. Not only does it meet all my criteria, but it also comes in petite sizes and is affordable.

The formal coat. Sometimes we go places that require an elevated look, so this is wear a formal coat is needed. I have three to choose from that are warm, have a nice tailored fit and go with dressier outfits. I like formal coats that have a belt, but I also have one that just has buttons too. Here are a few to choose from.

The jean jacket. Why does the jean jacket look so cute? I don’t love the texture of jean jackets, but I have found it to be a super versatile piece that adds warmth and style to outfits that might otherwise look plain.

Raincoat. When it is not freezing cold, but it is wet and overcast, the raincoat is a perfect piece to wear. Here are my favorites.

Trench coat. Last outerwear piece that I am still on the hunt for is the trench coat. This is a great layering piece that can elevate an outfit.

Coatigan. This is a long cardigan that can keep you warm on chilly days that don’t require you avoiding frostbite. I love this Jcrew Factory one that I have pictured.

Military Jacket. This casual jacket is so easy to grab and makes a plain tee look more cool. Picture yourself wearing sneakers, blue jeans and your favorite tee shirt with this staple.

Blazer. The blazer is so versatile because it looks so sleek and fashionable when worn for formal or work outings and looks intentional when worn with jeans and a tee shirt. I will always choose black for its slimming quality and this one is in my closet now.

Leather or suede jacket. I do not own either of these, but I have ordered a faux leather jacket and just didn’t like how it fit or looked on me. It isn’t my style…mom with five kids that hasn’t done very many edgy things in my life. But, I have seen it on so many people and it looks so hot on them. If a leather or suede jacket speaks your inner self, buy it!

I hope this gives you an idea of what kind of jackets and coats for women you can add to your wardrobe. I honestly would rather buy coats and jackets all day long rather than pick out tee and sweaters. Cheers to creating your personal and classic closet!
